Head Start
amcab has provided the Head Start Program to young children and families since 1965. Head Start began as a summer program for young children, then became a preschool for children that are 3 & 4 years old. Annually, amcab serves 284 children in the two county area. We have 7 Head Start Centers in Marquette and Alger Counties.
amcab Head Start believes in providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for three and four year old children that includes child-initiated activities enhanced through social-emotional development. amcab strives to enhance the school-readiness for all Head Start children based on the High Scope curriculum through early literacy, music and movement, as well as science and math activities. Other critical components of the program are family involvement, parent education, proper nutritional experiences and health services.
This program also supports parents in their efforts to nurture and assist in their child’s development. Parents are encouraged to participate as policy makers and volunteers. Family strengths are identified and parents receive guidance to help deal with possible concerns. Children receive consistent, loving care in an exciting learning environment.
